Hurghada's climate is consistent enough that packing is fairly predictable — here's what actually gets used on a typical trip.
Beach and pool essentials
- Swimwear (bring two sets so one can dry while you wear the other)
- A rash guard or light long-sleeve top for extended sun/snorkeling time
- A wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses
- Reef-safe sunscreen — standard sunscreen is discouraged or banned on some reef excursions
- A quick-dry towel for boat trips (many boats don't provide them)
For excursions
- Closed-toe shoes for desert safaris (quad bikes, buggies, dirt bikes)
- A light jacket or layer for early-morning departures, which can be cool before sunrise
- A dry bag or waterproof phone pouch for boat trips
- Comfortable walking shoes for inland day trips like Luxor or Cairo
Health and comfort
- A reusable water bottle — staying hydrated matters more than most visitors expect
- Basic motion sickness tablets if you're prone to it and planning boat trips
- Any personal medication in original packaging, with a spare day's supply in your carry-on
- Hand sanitizer and basic first-aid items (plasters, antiseptic wipes)
Documents and money
- Passport with at least six months' validity, and any required visa documentation
- A printed or downloaded copy of hotel and excursion bookings
- A mix of cash (small denominations are useful for tips) and a card for larger payments
What you probably don't need
Heavy jackets, formal wear (unless your hotel has a specific dress code for dinner), or a full first-aid kit — most resorts and reputable excursion operators are well equipped for common minor issues.
